(Jan. 8, 2021) Customers at Outlets Ocean City won’t need their passports to take this year’s holiday photos (free) in front of Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower or an Alpine location.
The outlet center is one of seven sites featuring the first multi-level, interactive engagement 3D retail windows in the world.
The new Window Wonderland Getaway promotion integrates click-worthy walls, QR-accessed virtual animations, games and promotions to allow customers to “travel” virtually, create photos for their own social media and enter layered contests with awards including weekly prizes, a $500 shopping spree and trips to Europe.
Designed to look like Paris, London and a “mystery” Alpine location, the 3D windows invite the customer to pose in front of the 3D scene for a fun photo opportunity to share on their social channels.
Signage encourages customers to enter contests to win weekly prizes or a trip to Paris, London or the “mystery” Alpine location, which will be revealed in the spring.
They can “Pose. Post. Play” in social media, or “Pick. Scan. Play” using an innovative QR code-enabled mechanism.
Either system enters them into the outlet center’s engagement platforms and are supported by onsite graphics, social media and advertising.
Scanning the QR code also activates an animated scene on the customer’s phone.
Outlets Ocean City is one of seven outlet centers that have premiered the innovative new windows, which were developed by The Outlet Resource Group (TORG) and their design team, including 3DWD from the Netherlands and the Funnel Design Group and SLM Consulting from the US.
“Every single shopping center in the world has some empty window or windows, so we decided to use our windows to create an engagement tool for our customers to interact with us in a touchless way, through the first and only 3D interactive windows in a retail setting in the world,” said Lisa Quier Wagner, principal of TORG. ”We were able to create a promotional activity using that space and enticing our customers to use their imaginations to fantasize about a post-covid adventure, dressing our windows to create a visual ‘journey’ to Paris, London and the Alps in a beautiful wintery scene, escaping reality for a flight of fancy.”
TORG is deploying this unique program as an alternative to any sort of a crowd-generating holiday event, which would not be appropriate during these times.
The Window Wonderland Getaway allows customers to interact with the centers on their own timeline and comfort level.
“Of course, we want them to visit and patronize the stores, but this promotion allows them to participate even if they do not elect to enter a store, but merely to enter our digital space,” Wagner said.
“The outlet industry is seeing 33 percent better traffic than indoor malls, with sales meeting and exceeding last year, even before Black Friday,“ Wagner said. “We think our promotion will enhance the success of our centers’ seasons and set us up for a successful 2021.”
The Window Wonderland Getaway will operate until March 15, 2021.
Located right on Route 50, just one mile west of the beach in Ocean City, the center has over 30 stores and restaurants, including Adidas, American Eagle Outfitters, Carter’s Babies and Kids, Coach, Crocs, Eddie Bauer, HomeGoods, J. Crew Factory, Michael Kors, Nike Clearance Store and Old Navy.
