Bob Tanner takes pride in providing quality service to customers in Maryland, Del.
(Aug. 30, 2019) Bob Tanner of Bishopville started his mobile carpet and upholstery company, Beach Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning, 30 years ago.
Tanner first got into the business after he graduated from high school, working for his friend’s carpet cleaning company.
His friend wanted him to take over the business, but after some thought, Tanner decided to start his own.
Tanner purchased his first cleaning van when he was 20 years old. He now has two vans in his service with all the equipment needed to steam, wash and clean carpet and upholstery.
Clients use his services as needed, but Tanner does regular work for local churches, including St. Peter Lutheran in Ocean City, and apartment complexes.
Tanner estimates he has anywhere between 200-300 clients a year with service needs ranging from once a week to two or three times a year.
Beach Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning offers services for all types of rugs, carpets, chairs, couches and other fabric furniture. The process can take as short as an hour or as long as half the day, depending on the size of the job, he said.
“People should use Beach Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning because of my dedication to quality and because I have state-of-the-art equipment,” Tanner said. “I went from portable [machines] to a truck mount[ed set].”
Tanner covers everywhere from Northern Worcester County to the lower end of Sussex County, Delaware, with work ranging from Berlin to Newark, Delaware.
He used to work alongside his brother-in-law, but has been doing the job solo for several years now.
His mother, Penny Carley, who is the company secretary and manages his schedule, said many of the people who use his services are in the real estate industry.
“He is an on-the-go carpet cleaner,” Carley said. “I believe people should use his services because he is a perfectionist and will not leave a job unless there’s 100 percent satisfaction.”
Beach Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning is available for services Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, Tanner said in the event of an emergency, such as a busted pipe, he can provide service on weekends.
