Jonathan Kidder

Jonathan Kidder, 59, of Berlin

(Feb. 1, 2019) A 59-year-old man was sentenced to 10 years in prison on Tuesday following his conviction in a deadly hit-and-run last May, the Office of the State’s Attorney’s for Worcester County announced this week.

Jonathan Kidder, of Berlin, was found guilty on Nov. 8, 2018 of negligent homicide by a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, and failing to stop and remain at the scene of an accident involving death, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

Kidder was driving a GMC Yukon on May 6, 2018 near the intersection of Route 589 and Gum Point Road, when 38-year-old Jose Eduardo Madrid Pineda was hit while he was riding his bicycle. Madrid Pineda was thrown from his bicycle to the shoulder of the road. Kidder left the scene.

Following the crash, Madrid Pineda was taken to Atlantic General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Kidder was also accused of rear-ending another vehicle near Route 50 and Keyser Point Road in West Ocean City later that evening and did not remain at the scene, according to the state’s attorney’s office.

The other driver in the second wreck identified Kidder and said he appeared intoxicated at the time of the crash, the state’s attorney’s office said.

Kidder, who had three previous alcohol-related driving convictions, turned himself in on May 10, 2018, according to the state's attorney's office.

Kidder will serve his time at the Maryland Division of Corrections, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
