Berlin Police Department

Police continue to search for the man who broke into a Berlin home on Sunday night, got into a scuffle with an occupant after brandishing a weapon, and then ran before police arrived.

Berlin police responded to reports of an active home invasion near Broad Street at approximately 11 p.m. on Sunday. After arriving on the scene, officers learned a man had forced his way into the home through a window while the residents were inside.

Police said after the man gained access to the home, he brandished a weapon and got into a “brief struggle” with the occupants before taking off on foot. Police did not say what kind of weapon was produced by the suspect.

Officers arrived on the scene after the suspect fled. The Berlin Police Department then handed the investigation to the Worcester County Bureau of Investigation.

Additional agencies — the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, State Police Crime Scene Unit, and Pocomoke City Police Department K9 Division —responded to the scene.

Anyone with information about the home invasion who may have seen anything suspicious in the area during the evening hours should contact detectives with the County Bureau of Investigation at 410-632-1111 or the Berlin Police Department at 410-641-1333.
