Plans for a factory addition at the back of the Candy Kitchen on 53rd Street are still on track following approval of an 18-month extension during a Planning & Zoning Commission meeting this week.

Plans to expand a midtown candy factory are still a go.

Members of the Ocean City Planning & Zoning Commission voted unanimously this week to extend approval of a roughly 3,000-square foot addition to the existing Candy Kitchen Factory on 53rd Street for another 18 months. The extension is planned for the rear of the existing building.

Members approved the original plans in March 2020 but with the effects of covid pushing back the start of the project, the owners asked for an extension.

“It’s great to have the factory in Ocean City, it’s a plan we approved prior and I think we should go with the 18-month extension,” Planning Commission member Joel Brous said of the addition during the meeting.

The original approval was set to expire on Aug. 18. Now, the owners have another 18 months to start and finish the project.
