Multiple police agencies responded to a call Thursday evening about an altercation that occurred at a Chipotle in West Ocean City.

(June 12, 2020) Police arrested an individual Thursday evening, after he or she purportedly was involved in a melee with staff at a West Ocean City Chipotle.

Det. Sgt. Michael Mann said the Maryland State Police received a call at the Berlin barrack around 5 p.m. about disorderly conduct taking place.

Mann said a group of people had entered the Chipotle, and two individuals did not have on their facemasks, as required under Gov. Larry Hogan’s executive order.

Staff at Chipotle reportedly asked the two to put on their masks, but the two refused and an argument ensued.

The argument escalated into a physical altercation according to multiple media outlets, but no assault charges were filed Thursday evening.

Mann said by the time state police troopers, as well as Ocean City police, Maryland Department of Natural Resources police and Worcester County Sheriff’s office arrived, only one person remained on scene.

The rest had fled, Mann said.

Police arrested the individual for disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and failure to obey a lawful order.

A police report for the incident will be available on Monday.
