West-O Bottle Shop & Bar owner Sara Hambury says the front doors were the only items damaged after suspect Luis Alcantara, 18, of Delaware, smashed his car through the store to obtain a pack of beer.

(Aug. 30, 2019) Luis Arce Alcantara, 18, of Delaware, created a personal drive-thru at the West-O Bottle Shop & Bar after smashing his silver Toyota Matrix through the front doors last Saturday, Aug. 24.

“… At approximately 1 a.m., a person chose to drive their car through the front doors of our business in order to obtain some cold beer,” the business said in a Facebook post. “The criminal then fled the property in their car, which was promptly discovered by police in a ditch …”

Maryland State Police arrested Alcantara later that night after finding him behind Your Doc’s In located on 12385, Ocean Gateway, Berlin Barrack Sgt. Everett West II said.

Aside from the front doors, neither the property nor any of its content was damaged, storeowner Sara Hambury said.

“Not even the flower pots,” she said, which rest on the exterior of the shop right next to the doors.

The shop, which is open Monday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Friday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., remains open for normal business hours, and has hired United Restoration Inc. to create temporary doors.

The storeowners did stress, however, that customers should get their libations during the designated store hours.

“Our tagline at the Bottle Shop is ‘Come on in my thirsty friends,’” the post said. “To clarify, we would prefer for the public to limit this to hours that the store is open. We will gladly help carry items to your car, no need to drive it in.”
