Bonnie Lee Hampe, 74, of Ocean Pines, Maryland, peacefully passed away from heart failure on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, J. Michael Hampe (Mike); her daughter, Katherine (Kate) McCloskey and son-in-love, Dennis; her son, Jay Kappel, and daughter-in-love, Debbie; her daughter, Elizabeth Hampe; her five grandchildren, Doria, Diane and Deyton McCloskey, and Josh and Emily Kappel; and her brother, Paul Bartholomee.

Bonnie was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on Jan. 24, 1947, to Vera Zabel and Eugene T. Bartholomee.

She grew up in Linstead and went to Severna Park High School and was on the Linstead swim & dive team.

After devoting herself completely to raising her three children, she went back to work for 24 years at Broadneck High School (in Annapolis, Maryland) as their financial secretary/bookkeeper.

She retired in 2007, then she and Mike sold their home in Cape St. Claire (Annapolis) and moved to Ocean Pines, Maryland, to be close to the beach they both love, and to their oldest daughter, Kate, and her family.

She was a very involved grandma, and the greatest cheerleader to her five grandchildren who all know how crazy in love she was with each of them.

In retirement, Bonnie volunteered at Shirley Grace Pregnancy Center (Berlin, Maryland) counseling those dealing with an unplanned pregnancy to choose life for their baby.

She touched so many and made a lasting difference. Bonnie loved people of all ages, but especially babies; she was quite the baby whisperer.

She also loved serving her church (Coastal Community Church in Berlin) on the finance committee, welcome table, her grace group, and more; she was a ray of sunshine, vibrant and full of warmth and love to everyone.

She loved with her whole heart and held nothing back; she always put others first.

She left a powerful legacy of grace and love, which abundantly overflowed from her to the world, especially to those who needed a long warm hug, encouragement, or prayer.

While her passing has left a huge hole in her family, community, church and our hearts, we are also comforted by her unwavering faith in Jesus, assured that forever more she is in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

A Celebration of Life, open to the public, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021, at her church, Coastal Community Church, 10900 Ocean Gateway, Berlin Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made “in memory of Bonnie” to Coastal Community Church’s “Community Fund” to continue her legacy of caring for those who may need some loving assistance.

Arrangements are in the care of Eastern Shore Cremation and Funeral Service, 504 Franklin Ave, Berlin, Maryland 21811. To send condolences to the family, please visit www.easternshorecremation.com.
