Delia Loreen Lewis, 96, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 14, 2021.

She was born on July 17, 1924 in Paris Center, Ohio to Roy and Gladys Shelton. Her siblings were Martha, Dorothy, William and Phillip.

After graduation, she worked at a beauty salon, was a bookkeeper, court stenographer and contributed to the war effort as a “Rosie the Riveter.”

Through her sister she met John Hansen Lewis in a motorcycle touring club. They fell in love and married on her birthday in 1948.

The couple attended Logan Chiropractic College in Missouri and welcomed their first born, John Craig William, while enrolled there.

After graduation and moving back to Barberton, Ohio, seven more children were to follow: Ava Marie, Kim Gertrude, Terry Ann, Shari Lee, Clifford Allen, Phillip Scott and Mark Hansen.

While raising eight children, she became involved in PTA and other local groups. After rejoining the workforce, she later retired from Summit County Human Services as medical intake supervisor.

Delia most enjoyed family gatherings, and Christmas was her favorite holiday. She loved the ocean and walking on the beach.

As years went by she earned her private pilot license, took up oil painting, spent hours gardening and after retirement was a fearless world traveler with and without Daddy.

Later they were at home between Lake Conroe in Texas and Ocean City, Maryland.

She was a generous, devoted, loving and supportive, dedicated wife, mother of eight, grandmother of 22 and great-grandmother of 19.
