William Christopher Hobgood, age 82, of Berlin, died Friday, May 31, 2019 at home.

He was born in Lotumbe, DRC in Africa and was the son of the late Henry C. and Tabitha L. (Alderson) Hobgood.

He was a member of Bethany Beach Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Cary Meade Hobgood of Berlin; two daughters, Cary Lou Hobgood of Burke, Virginia, and Laura Helen Hobgood and her partner, Jimmy Smith, of Georgetown, Texas; two grandchildren, Waylon Christopher Hobgood and Johnny David Hobgood, and their mother, Stephanie McQuilkin.

He was preceded in death by a son, Benjamin Christopher Hobgood.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 24, 2019 at National City Christian Church, 5 Thomas Circle NW in Washington, D.C. with Rev. Allen Harris officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Disciples Center for Public Witness (www.disciplescenter.org) or the Disciples of Christ Church of the Congo (www.globalministries.org/africa_partners_disciples_of_christ_congo).
