The Historic House Tour organized by the Ocean City Museum Society was a great success from all viewpoints.

On Saturday, Oct. 13, those who took part in this event had the pleasure of touring eight historic locations within Ocean City. With map in hand and coats buttoned, groups of friends and family set off on foot to tour a mix of private homes, churches, and B&Bs.

The unique history of this island unfolded as docents at each location shared information about the property’s past. The purpose of the Historic House Tour was to raise money for the George and Suzanne Hurley Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is open to graduates of Stephen Decatur High School who plan on furthering their education and is awarded annually.

Our sponsors are responsible for bringing this event to fruition and ultimately strengthening the scholarship fund.

Thank you to George Weber, Chip and Consuela Gordy, Reese Cropper, Jr., Hugh & Susan Cropper, III, Janice Davis, Mabel Midgette Rogers, Melanie Ayres Merryweather, Castle in the Sand, Inc., Thrasher’s French Fries, Shoreham Hotel, The Quillin Foundation, The American Legion, Taylor Bank, Law Offices of C. Gregory Coburn, T.E.A.M Productions, Kate Bunting Family Partnership, Barn 34, Harborside Bar & Grill, Sapia Hospitality, INC. and Elliott’s Hardware.

Contributions from these generous individuals and businesses made this event a true success! We would also like to say thank you to our dedicated volunteers who spent the day talking with people about the history of each property.

Finally, we would like to thank all those who supported the Museum Society by attending the Historic House Tour and to the home and business owners who allowed their property to be on display for this inaugural event.
