The ninth annual St. Joseph’s Day Italian Festival on March 30 sponsored by the Ocean City Lodge of the Sons and Daughters of Italy and St. Luke’s/St. Andrew’s Catholic Church was another big success and our best attended to date.

We had close to 1,500 attendees enjoy our home-cooked Italian meals and baked goods.

Music was provided this year by The Mario Monaldi Band from Baltimore (a favorite of Italian festivals throughout the Mid-Atlantic) and Short Term Memories, a Selbyville group.

As the many attendees wandered the hall, they bought Italian specialty foods and merchandise, participated in our large silent auction and basket raffles, enjoyed many rollicking Italian songs mixed in with ’70s and ’80s classics, and played some games of chance.

It was a fun day and a very successful one for our charity and scholarship funds. We have many individuals and merchants of Ocean City, Bishopville, Ocean Pines, Berlin, Fenwick Island, Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Selbyville, Rehoboth Beach and Lewes to thank for their generosity in donating gifts for our auctions and taking ads in our program.

There are 213 individual establishments that generously contributed and each one is noted in our program. These are the establishments that are the backbone of our community and we appreciate their support.

A very special thank you to our seven sponsors, who contributed to our entertainment – The ASPIRE Summer Work Travel Program, Tidewater Physical Therapy, Mio Fratello Italian Grill, The Moe and Marie Grimes Family, The Burbage Funeral Home, DiFebo’s Neighborhood Italian Restaurants and Tomasetti Law LLC.

These contributors and our many attendees provide the funds that we use for our many local and national charity donations, as well as three annual scholarships given to high school students in Maryland and Delaware. Our thanks to all.
