Editor,

The actions of those who invaded the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, resulted in destruction and theft of taxpayer property, loss of human life, and lasting harm to American democracy.

They were, in fact, nothing short of sedition.

Furthermore, those actions were inspired by President Trump and numerous members of the Republican Party by their failure to accept the results of the 2020 election, despite the fact that those results were upheld by recounts, state certifications, and numerous judicial challenges.

I am embarrassed to admit that my representative, Congressman Andy Harris, was among those who helped encourage those misguided insurrectionists.

Even after the conclusion of the attack, Congressman Harris continued to defend the President and even the rioters by saying they were there for legitimate reasons.

Ultimately, he voted against the certification of the Electoral College, thereby proving his allegiance to those who favored a coup.

Congressman Harris took an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution and has failed to do that. No matter whom they voted for in the Presidential election, Eastern Shore residents should be demanding the resignation of a representative who does not support the democratic process.
