Ocean City Today, an independently owned and operated newspaper in Ocean City, Maryland, was established by Flag Publications Inc. in 1993.
Its founding principle was then and continues to be to give residents of the resort and the other Maryland coastal communities a thoughtful, but straightforward source of news.
To ensure that goal, the paper’s small group of local stockholders (none of whom holds a majority interest) signed over all authority for business operations and news gathering to Ocean City Today’s staff of news and sales veterans.
The paper has continued to operate in this fashion for 25 years. During this period, Ocean City Today established itself as the official paper for record for the Town of Ocean City, Worcester County and the northern county communities.
Its coverage extends from City Hall in Ocean City to the Worcester County government in Snow Hill, Maryland, and up to the Delaware state line at Fenwick Island.
Ocean City Today is distributed free on newsstands every Friday throughout northern Worcester County and parts of Sussex County, Delaware. Its average year-round circulation is 16,000, with a seasonal high of 25,000.
Flag Publications also owns the Bayside Gazette in Berlin, Md., a free weekly with home delivery in Ocean Pines, and the Digest, a paid-circulation newspaper created to satisfy all Maryland and local requirements for the publication of government notices.
Ocean City Today and its sister papers are dedicated to providing coverage of events and useful information for residents and visitors in Ocean City, Ocean Pines, Berlin and other northern Worcester County communities. The guiding principles of our newspapers are to be fair, ethical and service-oriented.
