(April 2, 2021) The Stephen Decatur golf team finished in second place in two of its meets this week.

Seven schools participated in Tuesday’s meet at Nutter’s Crossing Golf Club in Salisbury.

Parkside came in first place, shooting a 183. Decatur was a close second, tallying a 185. James M. Bennett placed third with a 195.

“We struggled as a group against a very consistent Parkside team,” said Decatur Coach Dan Stearman.

Decatur was led by medalist, freshman Kole Kohut (41), followed by freshman Evan Oglesby (44), senior captain Katelyn Davis (49) and junior Jacob Bauer (51).

The next day, the schools played on the River Run Golf Club course in Berlin.

Parkside took top honors, scoring a 164. Decatur’s foursome shot a 168 and Bennett tallied a 203.

The Seahawks were led by medalist Davis (40), with Oglesby (42) junior captain Abby Wesche (43) and Kohut (43) also contributing.

Freshman Dennis Bontempo competed in his first match and scored a 43 as well.

“I was pleased with the overall play of the group,” Stearman said.

The next golf match is Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at GlenRiddle in Berlin.
