(April 2, 2021) Stephen Decatur cross country athletes continue to improve each meet.
The rain held out while the Seahawks hosted Wicomico and Pocomoke for a three-school meet in Berlin last Wednesday.
“It didn’t really rain during the race – maybe very lightly at the beginning but that was it. A lot of our kids ran their best times,” said Decatur Coach Jody Stigler. “Tristan [Dutton] ran well and was probably the standout runner. Overall, most kids ran their best times of the season, so I was happy with that.”
Dutton, a junior, crossed the finish line first overall (18:08.3). Also scoring points for Decatur were senior Liam Foley (third, 18:48.4), junior Sam Woodley (fourth, 19:16.7), senior Silas Cascio (fifth, 19:51.9) and junior Gavin McCabe (20:15.1).
Decatur won the competition with 19 points. Wicomico was second, scoring 40.
Only four runners competed in the girls’ race, all from Decatur.
Finishing first through fourth were: senior Avery Braciszewski (23:21.2), sophomore Mackenzie Cathell (26:03.9), junior Amalia Murphy (26:16.5) and sophomore Ava Becnel (33:42.6).
The next meet is Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Berlin on Decatur’s course.
