(April 12, 2019) The Stephen Decatur girls’ outdoor track team won last Thursday’s seven-school meet in Berlin, while the boys’ squad came in second place.

“Overall, I think we did pretty well,” Decatur Coach Jody Stigler said. “I think we are coming along OK so far. I am starting to see where I think each athlete works best for the team. We still will probably do some shuffling before the end of the season, just to try out a few new things.”

The Lady Seahawks scored 187 points in the victory. James M. Bennett came in second place with 181.5 points, followed by Parkside with 97.

Girls who earned points for Decatur for finishing top-eight in their events were: seniors Dori Krasner (800-meter run, first, 2:47.4; 1,600-meter run, fourth, 6:30.7) and Margie Rayne (shot put, first, 35 feet 3.5 inches; discus, third, 89 feet 4 inches), juniors Caroline Gardner (800-meter run, fifth, 2:57.3), Mikayla Denault (1,600-meter run, second, 6:28.6; 3,200-meter run, second, 14:48.5), Zehra Mirza (3,200-meter run, fourth, 15:45.6), Caela Berrie (high jump, second, 4 feet 8 inches) and Mae Purnell (triple jump, third, 24 feet 10.5 inches), sophomores Jessica Janney (triple jump, first, 32 feet 2 inches; 400-meter dash, third, 1:07.6; long jump, third, 14 feet 8.5 inches; high jump, fourth, 4 feet 6 inches) Jabria Lewis (100-meter dash, third, 13.5 seconds), Devon Kramer (800-meter run, sixth, 3:04.5; 1,600-meter run, fifth, 6:46.6), Raeghan Flynn (100-meter hurdles, fourth, 21 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, second, 1:02), Giana Cauble (100-meter hurdles, fifth, 21.7 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, third, 1:06.9), Jacelyn Clapsadle (high jump, third, 4 feet 6 inches) and Tija Lewis (long jump, sixth, 13 feet 4.5 inches), and freshmen Amelia Easton (pole vault, first, 6 feet 6 inches), Emily Magee (3,200-meter run, third, 15:29.6) and Zoriah Shockley (shot put, second, 30 feet 6 inches; discus, seventh, 55 feet 8 inches).

Krasner, Gardner, Kramer and Denault came in second place in the 3,200-meter relay race (11:34.7).

Senior Jenna Banks, freshmen Amalia Murphy and Erin Riccio and Magee came in fifth in the 1,600-meter relay race (5:35.5).

The 400-meter relay team of Lewis, Easton, Purnell and freshman Imani Walker took sixth (1:01).

Lewis, Easton, Walker and Flynn placed sixth in the 800-meter relay race (2:08.4).

Bennett won the boys’ competition, racking up 199.5 points. Decatur tallied 149 points and Snow Hill finished in third with 112.

Decatur athletes who scored points for the team for top-eight performances were: seniors Jonathan Santana (200-meter dash, sixth, 24.8 seconds), Victor Vick (110-meter hurdles, seventh, 19.2 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, sixth, 49.4 seconds), Theo Hobbs (high jump, fourth, 5 feet; triple jump, fourth, 35 feet 2 inches), Daletez Smith (shot put, fourth, 40 feet 5.5 inches; discus, seventh, 84 feet 7 inches) and Gabriel Bradley (shot put, eighth, 36 feet 9 inches), juniors Austin Cheynet (800-meter dash, first, 2:16.4), Matt Brown (800-meter dash, second, 2:21.8), Carter McLendon (800-meter dash, fifth, 2:27.8; 1,600-meter run, third, 5:20.5) and Eric Bontempo (discus, fifth, 95 feet 4 inches), sophomores London Drummond (triple jump, first, 37 feet 5.25 inches; high jump, second, 5 feet 8 inches; 200-meter dash, fourth, 24 seconds; long jump, fourth, 19 feet 8 inches), Bunting Maddox (400-meter dash, eighth, 1:00.4), Liam Foley (3,200-meter run, fifth, 11:45.8), Sam Oates (110-meter hurdles, fifth, 18.8 seconds; 300-meter hurdles, seventh, 52.3 seconds) and Noah Selt (pole vault, second, 8 feet), and freshmen Justin Hicks (pole vault, third, 7 feet 6 inches) and Ed Gault (triple jump, second, 36 feet 6.5 inches).

Junior Richard Poist, Brown, Cheynet and McLendon won the 3,200-meter relay race (9:01.6).

The 1,600-meter relay team of Poist, Brown, Gault and Bunting came in second place (3:54.8).

Hobbs, Santana, senior Daquon Collick and freshman Brandon Quach took third in the 800-meter relay race (1:42.4).

Sophomore Cameron Smith, senior Cameron Bradshaw, Santana and Quach finished fifth in the 400-meter relay race (48.5 seconds).

The next track meet is scheduled for Thursday, starting at 2 p.m. in Stevensville.
