(Oct. 22, 2021) The Worcester Prep girls’ soccer team focused on several things during Tuesday’s game against the Crisfield Crabbers in Berlin.

This is the first year Crisfield has fielded a team. Since they didn’t have many players the teams played 9v9 instead of 11v11.

“I wanted the girls to work on spacing, passing and switching the field,” said Prep Coach Carol Hartnett after the 5-0 win. “They did excellent, especially all the freshmen. The rows [of subs] kept going and going the whole game. Everybody played and contributed.”

Senior Myranda Beebe scored two goals. Seniors Natalie Brushmiller and Megan Waller, and freshman Jayden Scopp had one goal each.

Freshman goalie Abigail Ament recorded three saves.

Worcester and Salisbury Christian were tied for first place in the Eastern Shore Independent Conference as of earlier this week.

“We’re exactly tied. They beat us and we beat them,” Hartnett said.

The outcome of both teams’ final games this week would determine seeding and who would host the conference tournament semifinals on Tuesday. If both ended with the same record, the home field would be determined by a coin flip.

The game is slated to start at 3:30 p.m.

The championship round will then take place on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
