(Oct. 1, 2021) The Worcester Prep boys’ cross country team won last Wednesday’s four-school meet in Salisbury, while the girls’ squad finished in third place.
The Prep boys’ team recorded 34 points in the victory. Scoring points for the Berlin squad was junior Riley Moyer (third, 20:29.7), senior Nicholas Hearne (fifth, 20:58.3), junior Cooper Ludt (seventh, 21:24.2), sophomore Dylan Simons (eighth, 21:30.5) and senior Graham McCabe (11th, 21:45.9).
“The boys’ team remains pretty solid, but there is still work to be done. We have a good, core group,” said Prep Coach John Zirckel. “They’re staying pretty steady. I could be missing one or two and the other guys would step up.”
Delmarva Christian came in second place with 48 points, followed by Salisbury School with 49.
Salisbury School won the girls’ competition with 15 points, followed by Delmarva Christian (34) and Worcester (41).
Scoring points for the Prep squad was junior Caitlyn Hoen (fifth, 25:39.5), freshman Aurora Holland (11th, 29:35.4), sophomore Madilyn Nechay (12th, 29:58.7) and senior Sydney Lamson-Reich (13th, 32:44.1).
“They work hard. They’re hanging in there,” Zirckel said. “I’m trying to get them to their best by the end of the season.”
The next meet is Wednesday in Winter Place Park in Salisbury, beginning at 4:45 p.m.
